Haitian Foreign Minister Receives Ambassador of Cuba

Port au Prince, November 26 (RHC) -– The Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Duly Brutus, on Friday received in his office the Ambassador of Cuba accredited to Haiti, Ricardo García Nápoles.

At this meeting, the Chancellor Brutus thanked the cooperation provided by Cuba since 1998 to Haiti in various fields, stressing the collaboration in health, literacy and agriculture and specifically in veterinary care and the fishing sector, that contribute to animal health and the national food security program.

The two officials discussed aspects of the current international situation in general and specifically in the region. They also expressed interest in the preparations and future agenda of the Summit of the Economic Community CARICOM-Cuba to be held on December 8th. This date marks the 42th anniversary of the restoration of relations between Cuba and four members of the regional mechanism: Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica Trinidad and Tobago.

The two diplomats also discussed the implementation of the Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Treaty (ALBA - TCP), which includes the Alliance member countries : Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia , Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Venezuela.

Note that Haiti has observer status within the ALBA-TCP, whose the next summit will be held on December 14, the 10th anniversary of this integration group, founded by Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro and late Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.
