Havana, June 5 (RHC) -- Cuba and Canada signed this week a new agreement on air traffic to allow an "unlimited" number of airlines to fly between the two countries.

This "enhanced agreement" signed between Ottawa and Havana will also make it possible to 'share codes,' a commercial practice that allows foreign airlines to operate the same flight.

The Canadian government said in a statement that with this new deal, lower airfares are expected for flights connecting both countries, responding to customer’s demands.

The move follows an increase of Canadian tourists to the Caribbean archipelago so far this year. Cuba is the third most visited country by Canadian tourists, who in 2010 accounted for 40% of tourists to Cuba.
