Havana, September 8 (RHC)-- Cuban President Raul Castro has sent the National Ballet of Cuba a letter expressing his appreciation of a recent ballet piece in homage to heroine Vilma Espin and the Cuban Women's Federation.

Addressing his letter to National Ballet Director Alicia Alonso and all dancers, Raul praises what he describes as a beautiful homage to Vilma and the women's organization to which Vilma dedicated most of her life.

He said that he was moved by images aired on TV and the statements by some of artists and technical specialists. Raul also note the way in which such young artists, including children, were able to express Vilma's personality.

The Cuban leader said that the project was born from the deepest affection for Vilma as a human being and revolutionary woman, and from her strong commitment to her country.

The ballet piece recalls Vilma's life and revolutionary work from very early childhood up to her days as a revolutionary fighter along with Raul Castro and her leadership of the Cuban Women's Federation. The piece was illustrated with pictures of Vilma, including her wedding ceremony with Raul Castro.
