New York, December 16 (RHC)-- Cuba has called at the United Nations for international cooperation to prevent cyberspace from becoming a militarized zone to launch attacks against sovereign countries and instead, to promote joint scientific research and projects for the benefit of humanity.

Addressing a high-level forum of the UN General Assembly on the issue, Cuba's Deputy Communications Minister Jorge Luis Perdomo warned that although information technologies and communications contribute significantly to development and poverty reduction, if used inappropriately they pose a serious threat to world peace and stability.

The Cuban official voiced Cuba's concern that individuals, organizations and even governments are using the communications systems of other countries illegally to attack third parties, thus purposely generating international conflicts.
