Havana, Mar 23 (RHC) --- Cuba has supplied near 85 million doses of polio vaccines since February 26, 1962 -- being the first country in Latin America to eliminate the disease by the immunization and later by the reactivation of the vaccine, free of charge, to children under three.

Marlén Valcárcel, director of the National Immunization Program of the Public Health Ministry, said the vaccine program had a novelty in January this year with the incorporation of the vaccine program of the injectable inactivated vaccine for polio viruses.

It was administered to the more than 80,000 babies born between January and September 2015, meeting the World Health Organization´s Strategic Plan to Eradicate Polio.
