Bogota, November 25 (teleSUR-RHC)-- The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) announced Monday that the group lacks trust in the administration of President Juan Manuel Santos after he decided to halt peace talks following the capture of General Ruben Dario Alzate last week.

“With the suspension of the talks, the President knocked over the board we were playing on and destroyed trust. Things cannot simply resume as they were,” said Timoleon Jimenez, the leader of FARC in a statement.

Jimenez also criticized Santos for violating the most important agreement of the talks -- to maintain the peace negotiations without a truce or ceasefire.

Last week, Santos decided to suspend negotiations after General Alzate was captured by a unit of the guerrilla in the conflict-stricken department of Choco.

With mediation from Cuba and Norway, the Colombian government and the FARC agreed to terms on the release of Alzate and two other soldiers.
