Santiago de Chile, April 20 (EFE-RHC)-- Under the slogan “The future is today,” Chile opened a large-scale robotics show that presents projects and research “made in Chile” and concrete technological solutions for present and future challenges.

“Robotics technology is here to stay,” Chile’s Economy Minister Luis Felipe Cespedes said at the opening ceremony of the event, as he emphasized the need to put such innovations “at the core of Chilean public policies.”

Robotics Day, according to organizers of the biggest robotics competition in Latin America, brings together at the Science & Mathematics Faculty of the University of Chile the world’s leading research and development experts in this field.

For three days the robotics festival invites everyone to take part in a world that for many is still in the realm of science fiction.

It’s a place where androids are able to interact with humans, rescue the injured from a disaster, travel to Mars or even help train neurosurgeons.

For example, outstanding among the many projects on show is the surgery simulator “Sensus 3D,” developed by young Argentine IT engineers Santiago Bestani and Santiago Racca.
The device offers the visual and tactile realism necessary for rehearsing precise surgical operations, providing doctors with rigorous training and thus diminishing the risk of malpractice.
