Naypyidaw, April 5 (RHC-PL), --  China Foreign Minister, Wang Yi began an official visit to Myanmar, during which he will meet with authorities of the newly installed governmentthere, including his counterpart Aung San Suu Kyi.

According to reports, the Chinese minister is by invitation of Suu Kyi, who in June 2015 was in Beijing, then as leader of the National League for Democracy, winner of last November's elections. On that occasion he was received by President Xi Jinping.

China is Myanmar's main trading partner and its largest investor, while both countries share a border of 2,200 kilometers.

Shortly after the Foreign Minister assumed the post on March 30, his Chinese counterpart congratulated him and promised to expand cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples.

It is expected that Wang's meetings with his hosts will contribute to the development of bilateral ties, just when this Southeast Asian nation begins a process of wider ties in the international arena.
