Artemisa, June 7 (RHC)-- The 8th edition of Jolgorio para Polo Montañez festival concluded Sunday in the community of Las Terrazas, in Candelaria, today’s Artemisa province. For the second time this year, the event, which honors the legacy of singer-songwriter Fernando Borrego Linares –the unforgettable Polo Montañéz—was held virtually on social networks due to the epidemiological situation generated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Artists from Las Terrazas community paid homage to Polo on the 66th anniversary of his birth this June 5th.

In his short, but intense artistic life, El Guajiro Natural, as he was also fondly called after one of his most iconic tunes, wrote more than 100 songs –all of them hits in Cuba and around Latin America, especially in Colombia.

Some titles stand out, among them ‘Un montón de estrellas’, ‘Flor pálida’, ‘Si fuera mía’, ‘Si se enamora de mí’, ‘El rincón de mis ansias’, and ‘Dónde estará’.

Highlights of this year’s edition of Jolgorio para Polo Montañez festival included the release on social media of the music video for the tune ‘Jolgorio para Polo’, by the group Polo Montañez that will preside the celebration from now on.

Internet users could also enjoy highlights of past editions, including the concert given by Puerto Rican singer Danny Rivera and group Alabao, in 2016, which featured Cuban singer Waldo Mendoza.

Jolgorio para Polo Montañez is organized by Las Terrazas community and tourism complex, with support from the Cuban Music Institute.

Cuban singer-songwriter and musical producer Alain Pérez announced that he will produce the next album of the group Polo Montañéz, devoted to the promotion of Polo’s vast artistic work.
