Santiago de Cuba, June 26 (RHC)-- The director of Casa del Caribe Orlando Vergés has announced that due to the complex epidemiological situation in Eastern Santiago de Cuba, generated by the Covid-19 pandemic, all the previously planned in-person activities in the framework of the 40th Caribbean Festival, have now been officially cancelled.

Instead, Verges said that, for the second consecutive year, the event will be held on digital platforms from July 3rd through the 9th.

Dedicated to cultural resistance in the Caribbean region, the event’s program will include pre-recorded concerts by Cuban and other Caribbean artists and interviews with renowned personalities from across the region, as well as conferences, workshops and audiovisual materials dealing with a wide range of issues, from African heritage and influence on Caribbean culture and way of life to regional peoples’ resistance to hegemony and neo-liberal cultural policies.
