Havana, July 1 (RHC)-- With the slogan ‘Cuba is with me everywhere I go’, the 1st Cultural Festival of Cuban Residents Abroad will take place July 7th through the 9th virtually, due to Covid-19.

Deputy Culture Minister Fernando León told reporters in Havana that 88 Cuban artists residing in 15 nations have confirmed their participation.

At the press conference, Culture Ministry officials said the event will serve to strengthen links between the Cuban nation and its nationals abroad.

They noted how in light of recent attacks by Cuba enemies to artists on the island and the country’s cultural policy and institutions, Cuban nationals residing in Belize, Haiti and across Europe raised their voices in support of their homeland and developed actions in support of Cuba, the work of Cuban health professionals in the fight against Covid-19 on the island and abroad and against Washington’s economic, commercial and financial blockade on Cuba.

The program of the 1st Cultural Festival of Cuban Residents Abroad includes a Virtual Art Competition open to Cuban-born children and adolescents residing abroad and those of Cuban descent.

The Festival is one in a series of initiatives, events, exchanges developed regularly by the Division of Consular Affairs and Cuban Residents Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to forge alliances with the Cuban diaspora.

Cuban deputy culture minister León Jacomino cited leader Fidel Castro’s iconic speech 60 years ago –known as Words to Intellectuals’, when he said that the Cuban ‘Revolution should never turn its back on those willing and ready to work with and for it.’

With artistic direction by Rueda Producciones, the activities in the framework of the 1st Cultural Festival of Cuban Residents Abroad will be streamed on the official website of the Ministry of Culture and a network of more than 100 Facebook pages and on Streaming Cuba, and broadcast on Canal Clave of Cuban television.
