Havana, January 22 (RHC)-- The Cuban Union of Journalists and the Museum of Humor of San Antonio de los Baños have called for the 23rd edition of the International Biennial of Graphic Humor, organizers announced today.

The event to be held from April 9 to 12 with the slogan Laughing at machismo, invites national and international humorists and cartoonists to debate through art on patriarchal discrimination, gender violence, inclusive language and women's empowerment.

Participation in the meeting is open to all graphic humorists, who can compete with a free theme in the categories General Humor, Political Satire, Humorous Comic Strip, Personal Caricature and Humorous Photography.

The Tomy Political Humor Award, in homage to Cuban cartoonist Tomás Rodríguez Zayas, who would have been 74 years old in 2023, will reward the best exponents of counter-hegemonic, anti-imperialist and left-wing graphic discourse that deal with the issue of the media war.

The original works must be sent in digital format and with the signature and data of the author, Cuban newspaper Juventud Rebelde published in its Sunday edition.

The admission committee will select the works submitted to the contest, which will be exhibited at the 23rd International Salon of Graphic Humor in San Antonio de los Baños.

An international jury made up of prestigious figures linked to graphic humor will award the prizes, their decisions will be final and participation in the contest implies the acceptance of all the terms of the call for entries.

The Eduardo Abela Award is the top prize of the contest and is given as a tribute to the outstanding Cuban cartoonist (1889-1965), consisting of a diploma, a trophy and a sum of money.

The Biennial awards three prizes per category and as many mentions as the jury deems fit, consisting of a diploma. As is tradition, several Cuban cultural and social institutions join the contest and give collateral prizes.
