Casa de las Américas of Cuba announces its 2024 Literary Award

Havana, Aug 12 (RHC) Cuba's Casa de las Americas announced Friday the 64th edition of its Literary Prize, which will take place from April 22 to 26, 2024 and will be open to unpublished works in four categories.

Spanish-language texts may be submitted in novels, essays on artistic and literary themes, theater and literature for children and young people, and will be considered unpublished even those that have been printed in no more than half of them.

In the novel, theater and literature for children and young people, only Latin American authors, natural or naturalized, may participate, while for the artistic-literary essay prize, authors of any other origin may compete with a book on Latin America or the Caribbean.

No author may submit more than one book per genre, nor participate with a work in the process of being printed, even if it is unpublished, or that has won a national or international award or is opting for it until the Casa de las Américas Prize has been awarded. Applicants may not participate in a genre in which they have won this award in any of the previous five years.

The works must be signed with a pseudonym and a single and indivisible prize will be awarded for each genre, consisting of three thousand dollars or its equivalent in the corresponding national currency, in addition to publication by Casa de las Américas.

Mentions will also be granted if the jury deems them necessary, without this implying any remuneration or editorial commitment on the part of the institution that organizes the award.

Casa de las Américas reserves the right to publish, both in print and digital format, what will be considered the first edition of the winning works. In the first case, the publication rights cover up to a maximum of 10,000 copies, even if it is a co-edition or co-edited reprints, such right includes not only economic aspects but all the graphic and other characteristics of the first edition.

Authors should send their works in PDF format digitally through the link http://premiocasa.cu/casa, to which they will have access as of October 1 of the current year. The works should not exceed 500 pages, written in Times New Roman 12, single and half spaced.

The deadline for entries is January 31, 2024 at 24:00 local time, and the awards will be announced on April 26 of that year. Failure to comply with any of these rules will lead to the invalidation of the award (Source: Prensa Latina).
