In the footage filmed by former US Congressman Matt Gaetz, inmates denounce: "We've been kidnapped."
Caracas, May 15 (RHC)-- Images from a documentary filmed by former U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz show the harsh conditions in which inmates live at the Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT) in El Salvador, among whom are the 252 Venezuelans who were deported from the United States without access to justice or due process.
In a video shared on social media, detainees can be seen shouting "We've been kidnapped" and "We want freedom" from their cells, while officials accompanying them continue filming the scene.
The entire audiovisual material can be viewed on YouTube, reinforcing the sensationalism surrounding people who have been imprisoned and, in several cases, had no criminal record. The documentary is hosted by the American politician himself, who has a show titled The Matt Gaetz Show, which airs on the conservative television network One America News Network (OAN) and features interviews with right-wing political figures.
The footage was recorded in the context of Bukele's announcements of his intention to expand the mega-prison, currently the largest in Latin America, which houses more than 15,000 inmates, including the Venezuelans Donald Trump sent under accusations of belonging to the Tren de Aragua criminal gang, which has been defunct in Venezuela thanks to operations by the government headed by Nicolás Maduro.
It should be noted that the Venezuelan government has repeatedly condemned the political use of its deported and imprisoned migrants as hostages in a war truly directed against the Venezuelan people.
