Lima, August 9 (RHC)-- Yariulvis Cobas and Aimee Hernandez won this Thursday the first title for Cuba in Rowing, in the Lima 2019 Pan-Am Games. This was somehow an unexpected victory that Cobas referred to as “the spark” of upcoming achievements.

The Cuban duo of the Women´s Double Sculls reached the finish line in 7:10.74 minutes, in front of the boats from United States (7:12.72) and Argentina (7:18.85).

“We prepared ourselves for getting this title, which took a lot sacrifice. We are thrilled because we lit the spark of Cuban Rowing. This medal was not in the plan, but we did it. We still have some other events and we hope we can give more medals to our Delegation”. Cobas said.

“It was a highly disputed competition, rivals were strong, but thanks to our preparation for the altitude, we could make it through and win”. Said Hernandez.

Cobas and Hernandez were Women’s Double Sculls champions in the Guadalajara 2011 Pan-Am Games, 8 years ago, but in Toronto 2015 could only finish 3rd.
