Yunidis Castillo will be back for Tokyo 2020

Havana (RHC) - The outstanding Cuban athlete Yunidis Castillo began to train again in the National Athletics Team for people with disabilities with the goal of achieving a medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

«In this first stage I am focused on getting fit and losing weight. It's like starting over but I feel good, ”Yunidis told JIT after finishing a training session at the gymnasium of the Pan-American Stadium, east of Havana.

The Santiagode Cuba native aspires to participate in Tokyo in her fifth event of this kind, with her best results being when she obtained two gold medal in the Beijing 2008 version in 100 and 200 m T47 (affected upper limbs) and three in London 2012 by adding the one of the 400 m

Three years after moving away from racing and jumping because of an injury she suffered in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and with 32 years of age, it will be a challenge for her.

"I still have some discomfort, but for now, the main goal is to set my body in tune," she said about the first part of the strategy that includes bringing her body weight to about 49 or 50 kg she kept during her successful career.

Regarding possible modalities to compete in the Japanese capital, she pointed out that she will be competing mainly in the 400 meters.
