Cuban Lisvan Valdez

Havana, October 5 (RHC/JIT)-- Cuban Lisván Valdez scored 21 points in his team Real Estelí's 66-64 victory over UNAN León in the Nicaraguan Superior Basketball League.

The Cuban forward was decisive in the tri-champions' victory in the most recent date in a duel with the university students of León, who have in their ranks also Cuban players Yuniskel Molina and Orestes Torres.

Valdez, although he was not in perfect shape, made two three-pointers, five two-pointers and five free throws on Sunday night at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello in the capital Managua.

Molina, another of the three players hired by the Cuban federation, scored 11 points and his Havana teammate Orestes Torres, a former member of the Cuban national teams, added 27 for the losers.

Now Real Esteli remains at the top of the table together with Brumas de Jinotepa, both with a balance of 11 wins and four losses, while UNAN Leon is seventh with seven wins and nine losses in the tournament that has a total of nine teams.

Another Cuban who continues with an outstanding performance is Osmel Oliva from Artemisa with the National University of Engineering (sixth with 9-6). He contributed 10 points on Saturday in the 75-70 victory over Brumas de Jinotepa to reach a total of 346 and rank fourth among the top scorers.

Oliva paces the Cubans' performance as he continues to rank in the top 10 in assists (third with 82), three-point shots made (first- 53), average points per game (sixth- 23.1), minutes played (fourth- 559) and turnovers (eighth- 31), according to official statistics.
