Las Tunas, October 15 (RHC)-- Matanzas left-hander Yoenni Yera threw 6.0 innings without runs and led Algodoneros de Guasave to a 6x0 win over Cañeros de Los Mochis in the ARCO Mexican Pacific League on Thursday, while taking the Cuban pitchers' duel against Tuneros right-hander Carlos Juan Viera.

Yera, the star of the Cocodrilos de Matanzas, conceded two hits and a ticket to score his first hit in the second opening of the season. Yera used only 69 pitches (44 of them strikes), struck out two Cañeros batters and reduced his effectiveness to an excellent 0.82.

The other side of the coin is the start of Viera, who for the second consecutive appearance could not deliver for mentor Róbinson Cancel.

The Las Tunas native worked very well the first four episodes, but in the fifth he endured a two-run double by José Heberto Félix and a homer by Forrest Allday that completed the four-run Guasave run.

The decimated offense of Los Mochis could barely react against the Algodoneros bullpen, so Viera took his second loss in as many starts and saw his effectiveness drop to 6.52 clean runs per game.

For the winning team, Yadir Drake (RF), also from Matanzas, who was placed fifth in the batting order and went 3-1, with one run scored and now averages 409.

Meanwhile, for the defeated team, Josuán Hernández, from the capital, produced a single in three official innings.

Guasave's win keeps them among the league leaders with a 4-2 record, while Cañeros remains at the bottom of the table with a 1-5 record.
