Cuban men's duo to dispute title at Badminton Open

Havana, June 12 (RHC)-- The Cuban men's duo of Osleni Guerrero and Leodannis Martinez (pictured) will discuss the title of that event in the XII edition of the Badminton Open, held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, until Sunday.

Guerrero and Martinez came from behind this Saturday in one of the semifinals to win 19-21, 21-14 and 21-12 against Guatemalans Solis Jonathan and Anibal Marroquin.

Before that duel, the Cuban racquetballers defeated the local pair of Daiverson Pereira and Ronarki Reyes, 21-12, 21-5, in the quarterfinals.

According to the official website of the event, the Cuban duo will compete for the gold medal in the men's doubles category against Japan's Ayato Endo and Yuta Takei.

Guerrero and Thalia Mengana were eliminated in the semifinal round of the mixed doubles tournament, falling 12-21 and 15-21 against Sumiya Nihei and Minami Asakura, from Japan.

Previously they had come from behind to win in three sets against Guatemalans Cristopher Martinez and Mariana Isabel Paiz, with scores of 13-21, 21-18 and 21-11; while this Friday both debuted with a 21-13 and 21-10 success over hosts Nelson Javier and Lia Lockward.

Likewise, in this modality, Martinez and Yeily Mari Ortiz lost in a close match 18-21 and 19-21 against Brazilians Davi Silva-Sania Lima, finalists in the end.

The Badminton Open opens the qualification process for the Central Caribbean and Pan American Multisport Games of 2023.
