Cuban volleyball looks for fifth win in a row at the Pan American Cup

Cuba vs Puerto Rico

Havana, July 15 (ACN) - Cuba will seek today its fifth win in the preliminary phase of the men's volleyball Pan American Cup Final Six, which will conclude on Sunday in Nayarit, Mexico.

The Cubans will face host Mexico this Friday, after reaching their fourth straight victory on Thursday against Puerto Rico 3-0 (25-15, 25-15 and 25-22).

They had previously defeated the Dominican Republic, the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Against the Puerto Ricans, the disciples of Nicolas Vives were better in attack, 52 points to 38, blocking (11-5) and service (7-3).

The top scorer for the Cubans was Julio Cesar Cardenas (15 points), followed by Javier Concepcion (11) and Jesus Herrera (11).

In Thursday's other matches, Canada defeated the Dominican Republic, 3-0, and the United States beat Mexico, 3-0.

Cuba leads the tournament with four wins without a setback, followed by Canada (3-1), Puerto Rico (2-2), United States (2-2), Mexico (1-3) and Dominican Republic (0-4).

The top four teams advance to Saturday's semifinals, with medal contention on Sunday.

The competition awards points towards qualification for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador and the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, both in 2023.
