Havana, August 19 (RHC)-- Cuba's women's team will participate from this Sunday in the 11th Pan American Volleyball Cup, to be held until the 28th in Hermosillo, Mexico. The tournament has the presence of 10 countries divided into two brackets.

According to the website www.norceca.net, the Cubans will debut on the first day against Canada in section B, before facing Mexico on Monday 22, Nicaragua (Tuesday 23) and Colombia (Wednesday 24), at the end of the group stage.

Segment A features the United States, Dominican Republic, Peru, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica, all looking to qualify for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

According to schedule, the first places in each group will advance directly to the semifinals on Saturday 27, while the second and third places will advance to the quarterfinals on Friday 26, through the crossover system.

The discussion of the fifth place and the bronze and gold medals will be on Sunday 28.

As has been announced, Cuba will be represented by 12 players, among them those contracted in foreign leagues.

As passers are Gretell Moreno and Thalia Moreno, as opposites, Greisy Fine, Dezirett Madan and as center backs, Jessica Aguilera, Yamisleydis Viltres, Laura Suarez and Dayana Martinez.

The selection is completed by the spikers, Ailama Cesé, Sulian Matienzo and Claudia Tarín, and the libero Elemai Tarín.

In the last edition held in 2019, held on Peruvian soil, the Americans won the title, escorted by the Dominicans and Colombians, in that order.
