Havana, July 18 (JIT) - The Cuban basketball team was crowned champion of the CBC Women's Championship 2022, after defeating the Dominican Republic 79-60 this Sunday in the final held at the Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum.

With this victory, their fifth of the championship, they finished undefeated and also had the most valuable player in their ranks, an award deserved by the young talent Isabella Jourdain.

Once again it was an open game against the Dominicans with a 19-point difference (79-60) and marked superiority of the hosts in the different aspects of the game.

Captain Anisleidy Galindo once again served as the driving force of the Cubans with 25 points, nearly a third of the total, and seven rebounds, second only to Jourdain who accumulated nine.

The player from Pinar del Río was also the most efficient with +25 and again, as in the previous game against the Quintana Roo, she played all 40 minutes giving a demonstration of excellent physical shape -despite her veteran status- and of her courage at the front of the Cuban squad.

The home team once again had excellent numbers from the free throw line, an aspect that needs to be corrected even more, but seems to be on a better path. From long range they had an acceptable 38.5 % (5/13) with a highlight for Galindo, owner of three baskets in five shots.

Special mention should be made to point guard Dairis Tornell, with a superb performance during the tournament and especially in this final in which she gave speed to the team and seconded the captain in points with 14.

The game in essence was faithful to what was seen throughout the tournament: tight defense and explosive offense, which resolved comfortable advantages with break points.

"We prepared well for the match and did what we planned. We owe that in large part to the tactical discipline of the girls. We did exactly what we trained for. I am very satisfied with the result and with the team," said Margaro Pedroso, technical director of the Cuban squad.

After qualifying for Centrobasket 2022 on Saturday, the Cuban national team achieved its second goal, which was to win the tournament. It now dreams of qualifying for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023.
