Santiago de Cuba tied men's basketball semifinals

Havana, May 16 (RHC)-- The Santiago de Cuba (SCU) team tied one of the semifinals of the men's Superior Basketball League (LSB) on Monday with a 94-83 win over the reigning champions of Ciego de Avila (CAV).

At the Alejandro Urgellés multi-purpose hall, the Santiago Falcons came out determined to force the fifth game of the play-off and succeeded to the delight of their fans who supported them until the last second.

The locals dominated the first half 49-41 and after the break they lost 18-20 in the third period, to reach the fourth quarter with a six-point advantage (67-61).

In the final segment, the Indomitos were 27-22 ahead to achieve the important victory that equals two wins on each side in a series of five games to win three.

For the winners, Esteban Martínez once again led the offense with 31 points, while other double-digit scorers were Reidis Girón and Julio César Heredia, both with 13 points, as well as Yoanni Soria (12).

Today will be a day of rest for both teams and on Wednesday 17 the other guest to the title discussion in Cuban men's basketball will be decided.

On Sunday, the Búfalos Avileños were successful with a close score of 105-104 in overtime, with Yasser Rodríguez, with 23 points, and Yosbany Hernández (21).

Last Wednesday, in the inaugural game of this post-season confrontation, the CAV team defeated SCU 83-68, which the following day took revenge with a 102-74 win at the Giraldo Córdova Cardín Hall.

In the other semifinal, Capitalinos swept 3-0 their similar Sancti Spíritus team, so they are already waiting for their challenger for the 2023 LSB scepter.
