Havana, May 26 (RHC) - Eleven Cubans will cheer this Saturday at the Martinique Athletics Meeting, which will be broadcast on the Centro Caribe Sports YouTube platform and will have world record holder in high jump Javier Sotomayor as a guest of honor.

Rising stars such as pole vaulter Eduardo Nápoles and discus discus athlete Mario Díaz will seek to consolidate their results against athletes from 10 other countries, including Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago and host Martinique.

Napoles (25 and 2022 NACAC champion) is going through his best season and has improved his personal best several times to 5.60m, while Diaz (23) will try to beat the 63.90m record achieved last March and get closer to his personal best (65.21, in 2022).

Other young figures to follow are the sprinters Yunisleidis de la Caridad García (23 years old, 11.22 in 100m and 23.00 in 200), Yarima García (18 years old, 11.32 and 23.38), the Ibero-American champion in 100m hurdles, Greysis Robles (23, 12.93) and Daily Cooper in 800 (21, 2.02.27 min).

Also in the spotlight are the 4x400m relay world champion, Lisneidys Veitía (29 years old, 52.49 sec this year) and the Pan American champion and world discus finalist Jorge Fernández (35 years old, 63.39 this season).

Completing the list are long-distance runner Anisleidis Ochoa (22 years old, 16:23.3 in 5000 and 34:30.8 in 10,000), Keili Pérez in 100 hurdles (22, 13.01), and garrochista Andy Hernández (25, 5.42), all under the tutelage of coaches Doval Martínez and Pedro Tamayo.

At the last minute, the sprinting prospect Reinaldo Espinosa (20 years old), champion of the ALBA Games with 10.26 sec. in the hectometer, could not make the trip due to an injury, informed to Radio Habana Cuba the manager of the Cuban athletics team, Jorge Luis Aguilera.
