Havana, July 28 (JIT) - Cuban swimmer Elisbet Gámez finished 24th in the 100-meter freestyle, thanks to a good time of 55.40 seconds, at the Fukuoka 2023 World Aquatic Sports Championships in Japan.

Gámez "stung" close to the national record of the event, in her possession for a long time and updated last April to 55.32 seconds, during the open competition in Santo Domingo.

In the process, she signed the most outstanding for her in this event in world events, as she had previously stopped the clocks in 57.52, valid for a 49th place. In her previous performance in Fukuoka 2023, she placed 28th in the 200 freestyle, with a record of 1:59.98 minutes.

This Friday Andrea Becali will return to the 50m pool in the 200 backstroke. It will be his second and last commitment in this Championship. Rodolfo Falcón Jr. will close the Cuban performance on Saturday in the 1,500 freestyle.

The four swimmers from the island, including breaststroker Julio Calero, who finished his two events with discreet times, will return to Havana to enjoy some vacation days. Afterwards, the qualified swimmers will focus their training in view of the Pan American Games of Santiago 2023.
