Gold, silver and bronze for judoists in University Festival

Havana, August 22 (JIT) - A gold medal and a silver medal were won by Cuban judo fighters at the Ekaterinburg 2023 International University Sports Festival in Russia. 

These were the first medals won by Cuba in the multisport competition that began on Saturday, August 19.

Idelannis Gómez won the title in the 70 kg division, defeating Belarusian Zhanna Asipovich in the final. The bronze medalist in the world junior championship of Guayaquil 2022 thus fulfilled the predictions established.

Earlier, the also promising Jonathan Charón was included in the 60 kg final, but he could not beat the Russian Sergey Bogoslovskich.

The champion of the V Alba Games of Venezuela 2023 won the silver medal that inaugurated Cuba's medal tally in these games. 

Nahomis Elizarde Suarez, who won a bronze medal in the +78 kg division, also took to the tatamis. 

Raidel Lemes (73 kg) and Jorge Dariel Larduet (81 kg), who did not advance in their respective categories, also competed. 

This tournament has a high level, with the participation of the best judokas of the Russian school category, among other participants.
