Eleven Cuban wrestlers to compete in the Belgrade World Cup

Havana, August 28 (JIT) - Cuba will take 11 wrestlers to the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, scheduled for mid-September.

Photo: ReutersThe classical team will attend in all Olympic divisions. The women's team will have two wrestlers and the freestyle team will have three.

In the Greco-Roman team, directed by Raul Trujillo, will be the Olympic champion of Tokyo, Luis Orta (67 kg), as well as the several times world medalist Oscar Pino (130 kg).

Mijaín López, four-time Olympic king and five-time world champion, will accompany the group throughout the tour as part of its preparation for the commitments set, especially the Paris 2024 event.

Accompanying Orta and Pino in Greco-Roman style will be Kevin de Armas (60 kg), Yosvanys Peña (77 kg), Daniel Grégorich (87 kg) and Gabriel Rosillo (97 kg).

Professor Filiberto Delgado will have two girls, the talented Yuneylis Guzmán (50 kg) and Milaymis Marín Potrillé (76 kg). The latter is more recovered from the eye surgery she underwent shortly before the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023.

Julio Mendieta will be taking three bookmakers to a very difficult competition, namely Alejandro Valdés (65 kg), Yurieski Torreblanca (86 kg) and Arturo Silot (92 kg).

A year ago, also in Belgrade, the Cuban wrestling teams failed to reach the podium.

The top five in each division qualify for the Paris 2024 Games.
