Cuba defeats France in bilateral boxing card

Havana, September 18 (JIT)-- The Cuban national team made up of seven men and three women defeated France (7-3) on Saturday in a bilateral boxing card held at the Sports Palace in Temblay-en-France, a French town in the department of Saint-Denis. 

According to the website of the French Boxing Federation, five of the six victories in the men's division were by unanimous decision of the judges.

Thus, Saidel Horta (57 kg) defeated Riad Labidi; three-time world champion Lazaro Alvarez (63.5 kg) defeated 21-year-old Antar Bradi; Jorge Cuellar (71 kg) defeated Ismael Gbodiato, Arlen Lopez (80 kg) defeated Raphael Monny and Julio Cesar La Cruz (92 kg) defeated Soheb Bouafra.

The other victory of the Domadores de Cuba was for Alejandro Claro (51 kg) due to the injury of Billal Bennana, silver medalist at world level. The defeat was for the supercomplete Fernando Arzola by 5-0 against the giant Djamili Aboudou.

The three girls in the line-up were looking for international experience. Former Pan American wrestling runner-up Jaqueline Stornel won 2-1 against Solana Ayivi. Legnis Cala (57 kg) and Arianne Imbert (66 kg) lost to Delphine Mancini and Victoire Pateau, respectively.

This interesting match against the French squad served as preparation for the upcoming Pan American Games of Santiago 2023, in October-November.
