San Juan, October 9 (PL) - A home run by former major leaguer Erisbel Arruebarrena sealed the 3x1 score with which Cuba defeated Curacao and lifted the undefeated crown of the V Caribbean Baseball Cup.

The game was tied at one run in the sixth inning, when the US minor league experienced shortstop Roberto Baldoquín hit a double to the right field and then scored on a line drive by the shortstop from Cuba against reliever and loser Cerilio Soleana.

Both were the best hitters of the game by hitting a pair of hits in three visits to the plate, while Roel Santos also took the lead with a jit that brought home the game-winning run in the fifth inning, scored by catcher Andrys Pérez, who also hit a run-scoring single.

The victory went to left-hander Yoanni Yera (6.0 IP, 1CL, 5H, 10 K), the first Cuban starter to work more than four chapters, while Renner Rivero (1.0 IP, 1K) got the save.

Yera had a pleasant duel with left-handed pitcher Arlison Rodriguez (4.2 IP, 1CL, 4H, 3K and 1BB), who was far superior to the rest of the Curacao bullpen.

With this result, Cuba avenges the setback suffered in the 2021 final against the same opponent and climbs to the top of the podium after a pair of silver medals in a row.

For the bronze medal, Puerto Rico defeated the U.S. Virgin Islands by a score of 5x3.

CUR 1-5-0

CUB 3-8-1
