Havana, October 6 (RHC)-- Cuba defeated Curacao 4-0 on Friday and remained as the only undefeated team in the 5th Caribbean Baseball Cup, with one day to go to complete the preliminary round.

The team from the largest Antillean island had an excellent job by four pitchers, led by starter and winner José Ramón Rodríguez (4.0 IP, 1H, 3K).

As in the opening game against the U.S. Virgin Islands, the offense was more timely than plentiful, led by Dayán García (4-3, two homers, 1CI), Andrys Pérez (3-2, 2CI) and Roberto Baldoquín, who hit a home run in three trips to the plate.

García is registering a great tournament with the lumber by compiling 6-4, including three doubles, with four RBI, one run scored and also took a ticket.

The only two hits for the Curacao team were Darren Serrafina's in three at-bats. Pitcher Jordan Lucas (3.1 IP, 3CL, 5H, 1BB) suffered the setback.

With a two-hit shutout, the Cubans put themselves on the doorstep of the final of the tournament on Sunday, reserved for the top two in the standings at the end of tomorrow's qualifying round.

Cuba will complete its regular schedule against host Puerto Rico, while Curacao (1-1) will face the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Abundant rains forced the tournament organizers to make adjustments to the schedule, reducing it to a single round robin and eliminating the semifinal. (Source: Prensa Latina)
