Havana, January 15 (RHC) - World runner-up Erislandy Alvarez, considered one of the new talents of Cuban boxing, will fight next January 27 in Dubai, on the bill People's fighters vs Team Mexico.

Alvarez, undefeated in professional boxing with a 2-0 record and baptized as "La Amenaza" (The Menace), will compete in the 140 lbs with Mexico's Roberto Gomez, according to sports narrator Luis Izquierdo, a boxing specialist, on his official Facebook account.

Alvarez, 23 years old and from the province of Cienfuegos (central-southern Cuba), won the silver medal in the last Taskent-2023 World Boxing Championship in the 60 kg, after losing in the final to French favorite Sofiane Oumiha, three-time world champion.

This Sunday he has just been crowned champion in the Playa Giron tournament, the elite championship of the island and last year he was runner-up in the Centrocaribes of San Salvador.

In Dubai, the emerging talent of the Domadores de Cuba will seek to raise to three his triumphs as a professional, after victories in tournaments in Mexico and Venezuela.

"The physical preparation for that kind of fights contributes for the Olympic style, but in other aspects variations must be made, because they are different rhythms from the difference in the number of rounds," Alvarez said in statements last year to the digital newspaper Jit.
