Cuban boxing returns to Independence Cup in Dominican Republic

Havana, March 13 (JIT) - Two-time national champion Nelson Williams leads the list of six Cuban fighters who will compete in the Independence Boxing Cup in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.

Williams (92 kg), world champion in Tashkent 2023, will have among his teammates Osvaldo Diaz (57 kg), who last year increased his international projection.

The competition will begin on March 18 with the special attraction of the return of the Cubans, absent for a long period of time.

The roster announced by Alberto Puig, president of the Cuban Boxing Federation, is completed with national titleholder Giovis Salfrán (51 kg), silver medalists in the Cuban championship Rogelandy Delís (63.5 kg) and Jorge Manuel Soto (80 kg), and Jorge Daniel Forcades (71 kg), another rising star. Juan Hernández Sierra, Emiliano Chirino and Julio Lázaro Mena will be the coaches.
