Havana, March 19 (JIT) -- Cuba will be represented at the San Jose 2024 Pan American Fencing Championship, a qualifier for the upcoming Olympic Games.

Sablista Leydis Veranes and epee fencers Yania Gavilan and Danilo Guerrero must win the title in the competition to enter the tournament in the City of Light.

Alhjadis Banderas, president of the Cuban Fencing Federation, added to the JIT publication that the competition will take place in the Costa Rican capital from April 4 to 7.

Veranes exhibits more laurels in international competitions of rank, such as the individual and team crowns in the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023 and the third place in the XIX Pan American Games of Santiago 2023. Gavilan won individual silver and team bronze medals at San Salvador 2023.

Fencing in Paris 2024 will take place from July 27 to August 4 at the Grand Palais, built for the Universal Exposition of Paris in 1900. That facility will also host taekwondo from August 7 to 10.
