Havana, Jun 15 (JIT) - After finishing sixth in the final of the team event, three Cubans will be today in the dispute for the individual medals of the Pan American Gymnastics Championship of Panama 2025.
With a total of 218.950 points, the Cubans were close to the scores obtained on the first day of the qualifying event (220.150), when they assured their presence as a team in the Central American and Caribbean Games of Santo Domingo 2026.
Yohendri Villaverde, Diorges Escobar, Argenis Castañeda, Alexander Sánchez, and Darian Rodríguez are the members of a very renewed team, with only the first two mentioned with previous international experience, and who have left a good impression in the event.
The United States (238,800), Canada (233,200), and a surprising Argentina (226,000) took the podium in that order. Among the women, the Americans also climbed to the top with 164,765 units, ahead of the Canadians (151,633) and Brazilians (151,466).
The Cubans did not get into the discussion after a very discreet total of 115,232 points in the qualifying round. The team formed by the young Keyla Leyva, Gélidis Reginfo, Maykelis Aguilar, and Danny Roll made too many inaccuracies, especially on the balance beam, and as a result they will only be able to attend Santo Domingo 2026 with one representative.
This Sunday, in the dispute for the individual medals, the main focus for the Cubans will be on Diorges, who will perform on floor, parallel bars, and fixed beam.
Yohendri will do the vault and Alexander will also be in the parallel bars.
