Havana, Jul 5 (RHC) Barcelona will begin the defense of the Spanish soccer title on August 16, after the dates and schedules for the first matchday of "LaLiga" were announced today.

According to the competition's governing body, Barcelona, the reigning champions, will make their debut that day at 7:30 p.m. local time, at the Son Moix stadium in Mallorca.

The first day of the competition will kick off on Friday, August 15 with the duel between Girona and Rayo Vallecano, and will close on Tuesday, August 19, with the match between Real Madrid and Osasuna, at the Santiago Bernabéu, in the Spanish capital.

Barcelona and Real Madrid, as usual since time immemorial, are the main favorites for the LaLiga title, according to the vast majority of experts.
