Cuban Skaters Did Not Stand Out at the Start of Pan American Skating Championships

Pan American Speed Skating Championship Clubs and Nations 2025

Havana, July 9 (RHC) - Four Cubans took to the world track in Guarne, Antioquia, during the opening day of the Pan American Speed Skating Championship Clubs and Nations 2025.

Sprinters Myleen Muños and Deivis Prior took part in the 100-meter track event and Dayán Millán, together with Liz Mariam Pereiro, ran the 10,000-meter points circuit. 

Havana's Millán was the one with the best results in his presentation, occupying the 11th place among the long-distance runners. 

The event was won by Sebastián Florez of Colombia. Another local, Kevin Lenis, won the silver medal and Raul Pedraza, from Chile, took the bronze medal. 

In this same modality but among the ladies, Pereiro, from Cienfuegos, finished in 19th place. The podium was made up by Luz Karime Garzón from Colombia, followed by Fernanda Moncada from Ecuador and Valentina Letelier from Mexico.

In the fast event, our male representative, Prior, qualified for the final in 12th place with a time of 10.404. He managed to lower the mark in the final to 10.267, but could not climb positions. 

Faberson Bonilla, from Guatemala (9.902) emerged as the winner of the event. Behind him were Alejandro Tabares of Colombia (9.935), and Omerlin Estévez of the Dominican Republic (9.977). 

Among the women, Matanzas Muñoz placed 15th out of 18 skaters, with a time of 11.787. The multi world champion from Colombia, Geyni Pájaro (10.787) was crowned in the event. Salvadoran Ivonne Nochez (11.068) was the runner-up and in third place was local Kollin Castro (10.962).

In the competition, which closes next Sunday with the marathon, close to a thousand skaters from 16 countries of the continent are participating in the pre-juvenile, juvenile, and senior categories.
