Havana, Jul 12 (RHC) - The Cuban beach volleyball duo of Noslen Diaz and Jorge Luis Alayo advanced today to the final of the Russian league after winning the quarterfinals and semifinals in spectacular fashion.
In the first match of the day, Diaz and Alayo dominated the hosts Valeriy Samoday (Myskiv) and Taras Sivolap with authority, with a score of 21-15 and 25-23. Later, in an electrifying semifinal, they came from behind against local favorites Vyacheslav Krasilnikov and Aleksandr Reinson, representatives of Dynamo Moscow, with a score of 17-21, 21-13, and 15-12.
With this double victory in the Moscow arena, the Cubans ratify the great level shown this season, for which they were invited to compete in the professional circuit of that country. Their advance to the final, scheduled for Sunday, is an unprecedented achievement for a non-European duo in this event.
Since their arrival to the Russian circuit, Diaz and Alayo have attracted attention for their power, coordination, and dedication, becoming favorites of the local public and protagonists of a season that may mark a milestone for Cuban beach volleyball.
