Caracas, February 24 (RHC)-- The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, held a meeting this Tuesday with the secretary general of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Trade Treaty for the Peoples (ALBA-TCP), Sacha Llorenti.

During the meeting, a review was made of ALBA initiatives to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic in the region, such as the creation of a humanitarian fund by ALBA member countries to obtain vaccines on an equitable basis.

The Venezuelan president stressed that no one should feel unprotected because the alliance is setting up a structure for the relaunching of several health programs.

On Twitter: "I had a productive meeting with Dr. Sacha Llorenti, Secretary General of ALBA.  We talked about the formation of the Bank of Vaccines, Tests and Treatments against COVID-19, and the work route for new alliances and cooperation agreements between our peoples." pic.twitter.com/tyi38yPbTf

The ten most powerful countries, in the midst of the COCID-19 pandemic, have hoarded 75 percent of the vaccines against the disease.  For this reason, the regional mechanism marks a different scheme for the distribution of the doses in order to guarantee the fundamental right of the people to health.

Earlier, the president of the ALBA Bank, Raúl Li Causi, announced that the Social Council of the integration organization also agreed on the creation of a medicine bank.
