Managua, November 12 (RHC)-- The member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) expressed on Thursday their rejection of the interference actions of the U.S. Government against Nicaragua.

In a message published on his official Twitter account, the executive secretary of ALBA-TCP, Sacha Llorenti, said that the members of the regional initiative repudiate the action taken by the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden against the Central American country.

Last Wednesday, Biden signed the so-called "Act to Strengthen Compliance with Conditions for Electoral Reform in Nicaragua" (Renacer), which implies the adoption of unilateral coercive measures against the government of President Daniel Ortega.

The Nicaraguan president was reelected for the 2022-2027 period with more than 75 percent of the votes cast in the elections held last Sunday, results which were not recognized by the White House.

In its communiqué, ALBA-TCP reaffirmed its rejection of "all unilateral coercive measures that violate international law against sovereign states.  It maintained that sanctions affect the capacity to respond to contemporary threats and challenges, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, and are detrimental to the population.

"The Alliance reiterates its solidarity and support to the people and the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua," the communiqué stressed.
