La Paz, December 4 (RHC)-- The executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Sacha Llorenti, rejected this Friday the hoarding of vaccines against Covid-19, leaving as a consequence the appearance of the new Omicron variant.

Through his Twitter account, Llorenti stated that "the appearance of the omicron variant is a foreseeable consequence of the hoarding of vaccines by some northern countries."  In addition, he added that the inequality in vaccinating all vulnerable people in the world is what has allowed the pandemic to continue spreading.

"Failure to vaccinate all vulnerable people around the world as a matter of priority is causing deaths and prolonging the pandemic," said the executive secretary of ALBA.

The World Health Organization (WHO) HAS confirmed that the new variant of COVID-19, Omicron, is present in 38 countries and they do not rule out that it has a greater capacity to spread.

The epidemiologist in charge of the management of the WHO pandemic, Maria Van Kerkhove, reported that "there are indications that (the new variant) has a greater transmissibility, what we must understand is whether it is more or less transmissible compared to Delta."
