Stockholm, June 4 (RHC)-- The Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, affirmed that the main cause of the environmental crisis the planet is going through is the capitalist system.  From the Stockholm+50 International Meeting in Sweden, the Venezuelan official indicated that "excessive exploitation, deforestation, desertification, loss of biodiversity, overfishing and pollution" have caused a considerable increase in temperatures, rising sea levels, water shortages, droughts, as well as food shortages.

In this sense, the Venezuelan Vice President urged to take responsible actions and measures for the preservation of the planet.  Delcy Rodríguez pointed out that in view of the environmental crisis in the world, Venezuela has had "maximum awareness" in the preservation of the environment and the threat of the capitalist system that seeks to destroy the planet.

She also expressed the concern of the Venezuelan government by assuring that more than 90 percent of the world's population lives in places with atmospheric pollution, according to figures from the World Health Organization (WHO).
During her speech, the Venezuelan vice-president said that in the midst of the pandemic, humanity witnessed that nature "sent us a message, which told us: let us breathe, let us exist and we will all live and we can have protection for the future of the new generations."

Stockholm+50 is an international meeting jointly hosted by Sweden and Kenya. For 2022, the event brings together world leaders, representatives of governments, companies, international organizations, among others, under the theme "A healthy planet for the prosperity of all: our responsibility, our opportunity".
