Petro sends a message to Colombians just days before the vote

Bogota, June 16 (RHC)-- The candidate to the Presidency of Colombia for the Historic Pact, Gustavo Petro, has offered a message to the Colombian people, in which he detailed some of the key points of what his administration would do should he be elected on the ballot scheduled for next Sunday.

"As president, I -- together with Francia Márquez as my vice president -- will work to make possible the Colombia that beats in our hearts.  A Colombia with a future, with guarantees, with stronger institutions, in which education and health are not luxuries, in which security is not a utopia," he said.

Petro affirmed that he is ready to give all his experience and passion to the service of the country and that he will work for a Colombia with a fair economy, with development and where the environment and diversity are respected and inclusion is promoted.

He also called for a consensus to grow in harmony, with respect, peace, democracy and solidarity.  He emphasized that, if he wins the elections, he will respect the Constitution and will not seek reelection.  He also affirmed that as president, he will respect private property.

The leftist candidate pledged to comply with his government plan, while he presented "the five fundamental and non-negotiable guarantees that will come with this change" namely: no reelection, no use of power for personal benefit or personal vendettas, work tirelessly to overcome the Colombian economic and social crisis and respect for the Constitution and the fight against corruption,

"Have the absolute guarantee that my government will be one of a frontal fight against corruption," the presidential candidate stressed.

Petro argued that on Sunday, voters will be able to choose between two paths: "A deceitful one that takes us through the same dark, thorny path of a weak democracy, the same path that is difficult to access for the majority that violates our rights and that will leave the same old people in charge. And another road that proposes to open the windows to a new beginning in which we recover dignity, in which we all grow, progress and live better."
