Argentina advocates for unity against blockades

Santo Domingo, March 25 (RHC)--Argentinian President Alberto Fernández advocated this Saturday in the Dominican Republic for the strengthening of regional integration to preserve common interests, seek social justice and end the blockades imposed on countries like Cuba and Venezuela.

Speaking at the 28th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, the president highlighted the need to re-establish a unity that would prevent economic sieges from being prolonged and contribute to respect for ideological diversity in strong democracies where human rights are guaranteed.

“Our America, in the years in which Donald Trump ruled the United States (2017-2021), suffered a tremendous process of disintegration. The Union of South American Nations faded as its members disassociated themselves due to mandates imposed by Washington”, he stated, and added that “The Organization of American States remained at the service of this disintegrating objective, validating a coup d'état in Bolivia”.

Fernández asserted that the strengthening of the regional blocks is essential to achieve social equity and consolidate societies that protect everyone and do not promote the culture of discarding.

In addition, he highlighted the importance of the Southern Common Market, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and summits of this type to think about solutions to current challenges from multilateralism and exchange experiences.

On the other hand, he thanked the support for Argentina's request that the United Kingdom agree to resume negotiations on the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands, in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Organization and other international forums. (Source: Prensa Latina)
