Shootings leave three dead in neighborhoods of Marseille, France

Havana, April 3 (RHC) At least three people died, including a minor, and eight were injured, three of whom are in critical condition after three shootings between rival gangs in the popular neighborhoods of the city of Marseille.

The wave of violence occurred during the night of this Sunday and early Monday in the port area, in the south of France, and would have been settling accounts related to drug trafficking. However, investigations in this regard are still ongoing.

The first of the shootings took place in the Castellas neighborhood, in the 15th district of Marseille and left two dead; the second in Les Aygalades; both known for having an important activity linked to drug trafficking. The third occurred near the famous La Joliette neighborhood, in district two of the city, where the third deceased is counted.

The incidents in the last few hours bring to 13 the number of deaths due to settling scores with firearms in the city so far in 2023.

In 2022, some 32 murders linked to organized crime were recorded in the department of Marseille, some 28 in the city itself; of which the Prefecture (government delegation) links at least 31 to drug trafficking. (Source: Telesur)
