Lula da Silva indicated that he will ensure compliance with the new law with the collaboration of prosecutors from the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Women's Affairs.  The new legislation establishes that the criteria of equal salary and remuneration are mandatory for women and men; for performing work of equal value or performing the same function.

The Brazilian president approved three bills on women's rights, including equal pay for women and men.  Lula emphasized that inequality in Brazil is not normal and that they will do what is necessary for the application and respect of the new legislation.  He also said that employers who violate the law will have to explain to their clients why they pay women less.Brazilian president enacts law to equalize salaries for women and men
