Politicians call for national unity in the face of Haiti crisis

Port-au-Prince, Aug 10 (RHC) Haiti's forum of former prime ministers called Thursday for national unity and to put aside quarrels to get the country out of the serious crisis it is facing.

According to former officials including Laurent Lamothe, Jean Henry Céant, Evans Paul and Jack Jacques Lafontant, the country's economic, financial and monetary debacle is one of the main sources of the crisis.

The situation generates uncertainty, poverty and despair, and it is urgent to create a climate conducive to investment and job creation for our people, while preserving existing and potential jobs.

In the face of the crisis, the former heads of government consider it essential to "take a patriotic leap" and call for a debate to launch a solid economic development plan based on transparency, accountability and innovation in a secure environment.

They also denounced that, two years after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, Haitian justice did not make any serious progress in clarifying the circumstances surrounding the assassination, the fifth to occur in Haiti since its independence in 1804. (Source: PL)
