Venezuelan foreign minister arrives in South Africa for BRICS Summit

Johannesburg, August 23 (RHC)-- Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil arrived this Wednesday in South Africa to participate in the XV Summit of the group composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS), on behalf of the President of the South American country, Nicolás Maduro.

The aircraft carrying him landed at the Waterkloof Air Base, located in Pretoria (capital), where he was received by the Minister of Defense, Thandi Modise, and other South African authorities.

"Venezuela, together with other countries, aspires to be part of this important bloc, whose role will be fundamental to build a new fair economic relationship among the peoples of the world," wrote the Foreign Minister in his account on the social network X, formerly Twitter.

Likewise, Gil stressed that his country, like other nations, "aspires to be part of this important bloc", with the purpose of building a fair economic relationship among peoples.  At least 20 countries have shown interest in joining the Brics. On this day, those attending the summit agreed on the procedures to be followed for the enlargement of the group, according to South Africa's Foreign Minister, Naledi Pandor.

The BRICS Summit officially concludes on Thursday and its leaders will provide further details related to the group's enlargement.
