Brasilia, March 26 (RHC)-- A magistrate of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) of Brazil, Alexandre de Moraes, gave this Tuesday 48 hours for the former president of that country, Jair Bolsonaro, to explain his stay at the Hungarian Embassy in Brasilia.

The information about the summons was confirmed by the former president's lawyer, Fabio Wajngarten. At the same time, the STF also ratified the deadline for Bolsonaro's response.  The day before, it was revealed that Bolsonaro stayed from February 12 to 14 at the Hungarian Embassy in Brasília, according to a report by the U.S. newspaper "The New York Times".

The Hungarian Prime Minister, Victor Orban, is ideologically close to the former Brazilian president. Questioned about the purpose of an explanation, Bolsonaro scoffed at the inquiry and said: "Some crime, maybe, they will investigate it."

"So, let's say maybe sleeping in the embassy, or talking to the ambassador, is there a crime in that?  Be patient, stop persecuting," Bolsonaro said.

The Brazilian Federal Police will investigate the former president's stay at the embassy. Bolsonaro, the subject of criminal investigations by the STF, could not be arrested in a foreign embassy because he would be legally beyond the reach of Brazilian authorities.

Bolsonaro's defense confirmed that the former president stayed at the embassy with the aim of maintaining contacts with the country's authorities.

"In the days he stayed at the Embassy, by invitation, the former Brazilian president dialogued with numerous authorities of the friendly country, updating the political scenarios of the two nations," says the defense note.

The lawyers also affirm that any interpretation that goes beyond the information provided by the defense constitutes "an evident work of fiction," alien to the reality of the facts and "one more list of fake news."
