Washington, June 28 (RHC)-- In a 6-3 ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court has sided with South Carolina to defund Planned Parenthood by removing its health clinics from the state’s Medicaid program.
Writing for the dissent, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson said the ruling is “likely to result in tangible harm to real people.” She added: “It will strip those South Carolinians — and countless other Medicaid recipients around the country — of a deeply personal freedom: the ability to decide who treats us at our most vulnerable.”
In other Supreme Court news, the highest court of the United States stayed the execution of a condemned Texas prisoner, mere minutes before he was scheduled to die by lethal injection.
Ruben Gutierrez insists he was wrongfully convicted of a 1998 murder in Brownsville; he’ll now have a chance to obtain DNA testing that he says will prove his innocence.
