Hanoi, Feb 19 (RHC)  Venezuelan Ambassador to Vietnam, Jorge Rondón Uzcátegui, reaffirmed his government's adherance to a legal and peaceful settlement with Guyana in the dispute over Esequibo territory.

In a talk about the affair at the embassy in Hanoi, he spoke on the claim of the legitimate rights of sovereignty of the Bolivarian Republic in the historic dispute.

In this regard, Uzcátegui recalled that Venezuela recognized that the United Kingdom granted independence to the then British Guiana, with the caveat that any unilateral act of disposal of the territory within its boundaries, to the west of the Essequibo River had no legal effect.

The Venezuelan ambassador also highlighted that diplomatic relations with the Guyanese government have been friendly and greatly cooperative, especially during the governments of Hugo Chavez and Nicolas Maduro.
